Michelle Castro is the Animal Care Manager at the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe, where she leads the daily care and well-being of shelter animals while fostering a positive, compassionate environment for both her team and the community. Growing up in Northern California, Michelle developed a deep love for animals at a young age. Family trips to Tahoe filled with snowboarding and exploring the outdoors inspired her dream of living in the mountains, and after calling the Truckee-Tahoe area home for the past 16 years, she feels grateful to serve the community she loves. She believes exceptional animal care starts with an engaged team, meaningful customer service, and a shared sense of purpose.

Michelle shares her home with a dog and a cat, and the memory of her beloved soul dog continues to inspire the compassion and empathy she brings to her work every day. She understands the profound bond between people and their pets and is passionate about helping every animal receive the care, dignity, and second chance they deserve. Outside of the shelter, Michelle enjoys hiking, snowboarding, paddleboarding, and spending time outdoors with family, friends, and her four-legged companions.
