How HSTT is Helping our Community People & Pets
The economic impact of COVID-19 will sadly result in an uptake in animal relinquishments from within our community due to financial hardship and changes in housing caused by that hardship. In our animal-loving area, the decision to rehome a pet is heartbreaking and sad. HSTT is here to help pet owners through that selfless process by providing medical care, healthy food and a safe, warm place to live for every pet that comes our way. Donate at http://bit.ly/3a02OX2.
The Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe (HSTT) needs your financial support to prepare to help our community caringly rehome their pets when necessary. Additionally, your contributions will help community members care for their pets during these trying times with help from our free Pet Pantry food distribution program and, once we return to normal operations, through our Wellness Clinics providing free vaccinations and microchips to animal owners in need. Our goal is to provide all the support we can in order to keep pets in their homes with the people who love them, however, we need to be prepared to rehome an increased number of pets over the coming months.
During our country’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic all non-essential workers are asked to stay at home. While that can be a bit disheartening for some folks, we feel there is a silver lining to this situation, a fuzzy silver lining to be exact!
While so many people are staying at home, it’s opened up space and time in people’s daily lives to welcome in a new pet! We have implemented a system that allows us to place adoptable pets in loving, forever homes while still maintaining social distancing and mitigating potential exposure. We are currently offering adoptions of our pets through our “curbside” adoptions.
What’s a “curbside adoption” you ask? Well basically, we work really hard with our foster parents and adopters to collect tons of information on our pets and adoptive homes to best match our pets with adopters.
Once we’ve made the match, we offer a virtual meeting for our adopters to get to know the animal even better. After the virtual meeting is complete and the adopter is committed, we are then able to complete our application and adoption process entirely electronically.
Upon completion of the paperwork, we can then schedule a hands free curbside pick-up of the new pet (in their freshly sanitized crate, of course!). It doesn’t end there though; once the pet is in their new home, our team will be there every step of the way to help guide adopters.
If you’re interested in adopting email us at email@example.com.
Distributing Pet Food to Our Community through our Pet Pantry - Over 6,500 pounds of pet food and 650 pounds of litter have been distributed since April , 2020!
We've partnered with local social service groups to provide pop-up distribution locations for community members receiving food assistance through these programs. Additionally, we are delivering food to our homebound community members through an easy sign-up process on our website here. For members of the community who are not enrolled in social service food assitance programs, are able to leave their homes for essential activities such as groceries, and are experiencing financial hardship, we welcome you to stop by one of our pickup locations.
